TwenPics is an independent vintage photography collection focused on everyday life in 20th-century California. The collection brings together original private photographs and Polaroids, documenting moments across diverse social and cultural contexts.
At its core, TwenPics explores human presence, relationships and lived environments. Each photograph is approached as both a historical fragment and an open visual narrative — shaped by its cultural moment while remaining open to contemporary interpretation.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Daniella Hehmann (M.A.) is a photographer and visual storyteller with a background in American Cultural Studies. Her work is informed by an in-depth engagement with the history of photography, including a master’s thesis on American photographer Paul Strand and the role of photography within its cultural and historical context in the United States.
From a social and cultural perspective, TwenPics is driven by an interest in photography as a form of witnessing lived realities, social structures and everyday presence. Photography has accompanied her life as a continuous thread, shaping the curatorial perspective behind the collection.

TwenPics ist eine unabhängige Vintage-Fotografie-Sammlung mit Schwerpunkt auf Alltagsfotografie des 20. Jahrhunderts in Kalifornien. Die Sammlung vereint originale private Fotografien und Polaroids, die unterschiedliche soziale und kulturelle Kontexte dokumentieren.
Im Zentrum stehen menschliche Präsenz, Beziehungen und gelebte Räume. Jedes Bild wird als historisches Fragment verstanden und zugleich als offene visuelle Erzählung gelesen — geprägt von seinem kulturellen Moment und dennoch offen für eine heutige Betrachtung.

Zur Kuratorin
Daniella Hehmann (M.A.) ist Fotografin und visuelle Erzählerin mit einem akademischen Hintergrund in Amerikanischer Kulturgeschichte. Ihre kuratorische Perspektive ist geprägt durch eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichte der Fotografie, unter anderem im Rahmen ihrer Magisterarbeit über den amerikanischen Fotografen Paul Strand und die Rolle der Fotografie im kulturellen und historischen Kontext der USA.
Aus sozial- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive speist sich TwenPics aus dem Interesse an Fotografie als Medium der Beobachtung gelebter Wirklichkeiten, sozialer Strukturen und alltäglicher Präsenz. Fotografie zieht sich wie ein roter Faden durch ihr Leben und prägt den Blick hinter der Sammlung.
